Win, Lose & Way Too Close …

Miami Heat’s season opener against the Boston Celtics was an amazing game. It showed a preview of what the team had to bring to the court. Ray Allen showed he still got game (all pun intended) while the Big 3 dominated the floor. Even players like Lewis, Battier, Haslem (one of my all time faves) and Chalmers showed what they were all about. Needless to say this game was all about the NBA Champions receiving their rings then showing they still got it while facing the Celtics. Of course, we were all waiting to see Ray Allen himself face his former team and show he is now part of the Heat team – he did. While critics might say the man is done, far from the truth, he showed that he can still bring his notorious three pointer to Miami.

The Knicks… whole different story. I am all about acts of kindness but the Heat practically gave this game away. Their defense was completely off. Nonexistent. If it wasn’t for Bosh who saved their butts on the offensive and defensive, the lead probably would have been higher. But there was no momentum at any point in this game for the Heat. The New York Knicks came on strong and never let their guard down. Every player contributed from Steve Novak  with as much as three triples to Melo, Smith and Chandler all bringing their A game. Can’t say much about our boys other than they were silent. Shane Battier was on ghost mode and even Lebron looked sloppy out there. I feel bad about Hurricane Sandy just like the next person but come on the Heat practically gave the game to them. Very weak.  So this one goes out to the New York Knicks who made their fans and city proud tonight in the midst of a disaster. Let’s hope this ass kicking was for a good cause.

So we went from a spectacular win to an embarrassing loss to a way too close game with the Denver Nuggets. Granted we were all jumping up and down when we saw Ray Ray hit that three pointer and throw himself on the floor to get us back the ball BUT it shouldn’t have been so damn close. For most of the game, the Nuggets had the lead and the minute we were one point up they were quick to regain it. My friend was saying ” if we lose to the Denver Nuggets, it will be just as bad as losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers” … I didn’t necessarily agree with him. Yes the Cavaliers suck, that’s a given but I don’t think the Nuggets are  down there (maybe the Charlotte Bobcats). I think they have a great defense which was clear in last night’s game because they did not budge. While the Miami Heat are one of the most intimidating teams at the moment, it doesn’t mean small teams are going to back down and play nice. Au Contraire, they are going to bring it all and the Nuggets brought it. Up until the last three minutes of the games, let’s all admit we were a bit scared. After the New York ” Beat the Heat” extravaganza, we needed a solid win at home.  We got one but let’s just say it was also a warning to our Miami Heat that while they got one ring, all these teams are going to bring their all to get the next one.
