Miami Heat: Looking Good All Around

Last night’s game against the Phoenix Suns was a vast improvement compare to the previous two games where we lost and then just let it get too close. The Miami Heat defense looked a lot better last night and the golden boy of the night seem to be Mario Chalmers. We all know for a while that Erik Spoelstra has been molding Chalmers to reach his ultimate point guard potential. Well he showed that last night. When Chalmers is on point, we are sure to have a great game. With nine points, eleven assists and only one turnover (GO CHALMERS!), he helped the Heat achieve one of their highest scoring games so far this season.  Lebron, Wade and Bosh all scored in the double digits and towards the fourth quarter, they sat down most of the time. We even got to see rookie Terrel Harris get some playing time along with James Jones who is known for his clutch three point shot. Rashard Lewis is another great player that makes it harder for the Suns as well as other teams to penetrate the Big 3 since they need to get past him. Threats all around!

Even Norris Cole had his moment in the spotlight with that crazy three he hit at the end of the first quarter. Another rookie who def has earned his spot in the Miami Heat roster (I call him the mini- Wade in the making). Of course we cannot forget one of our Heat veterans, Udonis Haslem who was also in the double digits and had a great shooting night. Even though he is one of my all time favorites, he has his moments where his shot is weak but last night he was on point. Another great defender who I think that when he is on his A game the Heat are constantly getting the ball and scoring.

Last, but not least, and yes he is rapidly becoming my favorite (okay he already is) Ray Allen continues to make his mark with the Heat. If anyone knows anything about me is that I have NEVER for one minute liked the Celtics, but he was always that player I respected and made the exception for. Seeing him wear that Miami Heat jersey just makes me smile thinking “We got him”. Unlike Lebron, I will say Allen had a more positive welcome to the team both from fans and critics (some anyway).  He is contributing so much and blending right in with the team’s dynamic.

Suns lost one of their all time players Steve Nash and they are lacking a lot of depth –  just check out the highlights. If it’s any consolation to the fans,  word on the street is the Lakers are not looking too good. Our Miami Heat players did a great job with a solid lead and up to eight different players scoring triples. Can’t wait to check out next game!

Win, Lose & Way Too Close …

Miami Heat’s season opener against the Boston Celtics was an amazing game. It showed a preview of what the team had to bring to the court. Ray Allen showed he still got game (all pun intended) while the Big 3 dominated the floor. Even players like Lewis, Battier, Haslem (one of my all time faves) and Chalmers showed what they were all about. Needless to say this game was all about the NBA Champions receiving their rings then showing they still got it while facing the Celtics. Of course, we were all waiting to see Ray Allen himself face his former team and show he is now part of the Heat team – he did. While critics might say the man is done, far from the truth, he showed that he can still bring his notorious three pointer to Miami.

The Knicks… whole different story. I am all about acts of kindness but the Heat practically gave this game away. Their defense was completely off. Nonexistent. If it wasn’t for Bosh who saved their butts on the offensive and defensive, the lead probably would have been higher. But there was no momentum at any point in this game for the Heat. The New York Knicks came on strong and never let their guard down. Every player contributed from Steve Novak  with as much as three triples to Melo, Smith and Chandler all bringing their A game. Can’t say much about our boys other than they were silent. Shane Battier was on ghost mode and even Lebron looked sloppy out there. I feel bad about Hurricane Sandy just like the next person but come on the Heat practically gave the game to them. Very weak.  So this one goes out to the New York Knicks who made their fans and city proud tonight in the midst of a disaster. Let’s hope this ass kicking was for a good cause.

So we went from a spectacular win to an embarrassing loss to a way too close game with the Denver Nuggets. Granted we were all jumping up and down when we saw Ray Ray hit that three pointer and throw himself on the floor to get us back the ball BUT it shouldn’t have been so damn close. For most of the game, the Nuggets had the lead and the minute we were one point up they were quick to regain it. My friend was saying ” if we lose to the Denver Nuggets, it will be just as bad as losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers” … I didn’t necessarily agree with him. Yes the Cavaliers suck, that’s a given but I don’t think the Nuggets are  down there (maybe the Charlotte Bobcats). I think they have a great defense which was clear in last night’s game because they did not budge. While the Miami Heat are one of the most intimidating teams at the moment, it doesn’t mean small teams are going to back down and play nice. Au Contraire, they are going to bring it all and the Nuggets brought it. Up until the last three minutes of the games, let’s all admit we were a bit scared. After the New York ” Beat the Heat” extravaganza, we needed a solid win at home.  We got one but let’s just say it was also a warning to our Miami Heat that while they got one ring, all these teams are going to bring their all to get the next one.

The Heat is back … for another ring.

Today marks the official day for the Miami Heat to once again start paving their road towards another Championship. Who better than to start off the season with than one of our favorite rivals, the Boston Celtics? I have to admit, knowing that we have Ray Allen who forever was one of their star athletes on our side brings a smile to my face. Of course this game has huge ratings marked all over it, but for both teams it means a lot more. No matter how much they want to say that ‘Jesus Shuttleworth’ had his run – it stung them.

This season isn’t all about just getting the ring again (okay so it is) but utilizing each of our players to their best abilities.  With additions like Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis playing Forward and Point Guard (we’ll see), the team has to come up with great plays to create more scoring opportunities. I think our talent has increased and more positions are looking to actually be filled. Before it was constantly the question of where to put Bosh…  leave him at Center or move him around? In addition, while the roster is looking like Wade, Lebron, Bosh, Allen, Chalmers and possibly Battier or Lewis? It will be interesting to see how Erik Spoelstra develops these players into the variety of positiosn they can play – it all depends who is going to be the most beneficial. Although Haslem is again suffering a bit with injuries, he will get his playing time while alternating with Bosh in the Center / Power Forward position. Chalmer finally becomes the true PG he has been working towards since joining the Heat (I’ll admit he had played hard for it) leaving Wade, Lebron and possibly Battier switching off between Small Forward / Power Guard / Small Guard. There are a plethora of possibilities.

Now it’s really becoming a more strategic game with other teams getting new, young players as well as beneficial trades ( How bout them Lakers?). Still if the Miami Heat are good at anything is not being fazed by outside rumors, even the whole ‘Miami Repeat” one doesn’t get to them. They know and it is completely true that the game belongs to the team playing the hardest.

I am so excited for tonight’s game and not to mention basketball season. I am not exactly a Sunday Night Football kind of girl so knowing the Heat are back is already making Fall my favorite season all over again. Let’s have a great basketball season, let the trash talking begin among frenemies and most of all – LET’S GO HEAT!

2012 NBA Champions soon to be back

MIAMI HEAT… CAN’T BE BEAT !

It’s been a while since my last Heat post but doesn’t mean I missed any minute of our boys bringing the championship back home. Our win was not given to us but truly earned by every single one of our players. No one can deny that this was huge for the ‘Big 3’ who were constantly scrutinized by both the media and fans all over the world. Who can forget all the drama and haterade Mr. Lebron James had to endure for leaving his 7 year team the Cleveland Cavaliers? Still after much sweat and perseverance and a lot of dusting his shoulder off, Lebron James got his FIRST ring.  Still looking back at the finals, it was not just about the ‘Big 3’ but about the whole team playing their parts. Players like Battier and Miller showed their black and red pride especially in the last final games where they stepped up to the plate. Miller who I constantly see as the ‘man made of glass’ (injuries galore!) showed true sportsmanship in playing with everything he’s got even after Spoelstra tried pulling him out. Again the victory was earned by the whole team from the coaches to every single player who were able to tuned out the negativity and go on to become the 2012 Miami Heat Champions. I am excited to see where they will takes us this year with new players like Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen (soooooo excited to see this come together).  Training camp starts soon and then come October …. On to the next ring: LET’S GO HEAT!

2012 Playoffs… We got this.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve written about my favorite boys in white but doesn’t mean I have stopped watching the games all the way until playoffs… PSSH I’m not known as the Heat girl for no reason! But it looks like the moment we have been waiting all short season long is here. No more trash talking. No more threats or promises of what is to come – it’s here. With the Heat playing Game 5 back in Miami against the New York Knicks, they have been able to show that they deserve to be in the 2012 playoffs despite their slumps. No one can deny that Lebron James has shown us that his Playoff hat is definitely on and the man has one main focus – a ring and opportunity to shut a lot of his past haters up. Granted we didn’t sweep the New York Knicks but let’s be real, they’re not really the team to be worried about. Seriously a player who in a critical time when his team needs him the most decides to punch a fire extinguisher and injure his hand? Only Amare Stoudemire. As if he isn’t injury prone enough, still I give the all around giant props for getting on the court on Game 4 and to his teammate Carmelo Anthony who despite losing three games in row was the only thing the New York Knicks team had going for them.  Let’s be real though.. that will not happen in our house. The Knicks win probably was due because towards the end they showed more passion and wanted to save face with their hometown, as to where the Heat got a little too complacent and slacked off. I am not worried about these series at all just want the Knicks done and over with so the boys in white can get ready for their next challenge… in words of the Brooklyn boy Jay-Z “on to the next one”.
